Mission Statement

To provide survivors of sexual abuse and cover-up by bishops, clergy, and lay staff of the Roman Catholic Church with connections to legal advice and representation, law enforcement, wellness counseling, and press coverage.

Our Story

THE ARCHANGEL FOUNDATION was founded by current Chairman of the Board, James J. Egan, and President, Roman V. Krasnitsky, in 2018, in the wake of the abuse crisis following the revelations about ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick and the release of the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report. Since leaving the seminary in 2015, James and Roman have worked to help survivors of clerical sexual abuse come forward and find justice and healing. They found many individuals who are afraid of retribution from their dioceses, with threats against their legal statuses, livelihoods, and personal safety being levied against them by high-ranking Church officials. James and Roman also learned of the many obstacles and difficulties which survivors face in coming forward, including not knowing who to talk to and what resources are available to them. This unfortunate reality inspired the two to create a network of attorneys, counselors, and news media contacts in order to provide comprehensive, safe, custom-tailored avenues to attaining closure and recompense. In addition to providing for the needs of current survivors, it is our hope that our work can help achieve the removal and prosecution of abusive clergymen and complicit bishops and Cardinals, along with the imposition of substantial, external accountability mechanisms to enforce the Church’s failed “zero-tolerance” policy.

The Foundation’s Crest

The Foundation’s crest was skillfully designed by talented Chicago-based artist and friend of our work, Peter Schmisek. The image on the shield is inspired by Guido Reni’s famous Baroque painting of our patron, St. Michael the Archangel, and represents our willingness to do battle against the agents and systems of abuse and corruption within the Church. The shield itself symbolizes the protection we strive to provide to all survivors of abuse.
